Cllr Richard Cooper

Richard Cooper has chaired the Harrogate Convention Centre Board since June 2014.  He is the Leader of Harrogate Borough Council and works for Harrogate and Knaresborough MP, Andrew Jones. Richard is keen to welcome new and existing clients to experience Harrogate and the first-class service the Convention Centre offers.

He was first elected to Harrogate Council in 1999; the youngest councillor on the authority at 27 years old.  Richard occupied several senior positions before being elected Leader of the Council in 2014.

Originally from Huddersfield, Richard is proud to call Harrogate home. He works with local people, groups and businesses to introduce more and more people to the town regularly voted the happiest place to live in England.

Whether it is the award-winning Valley Gardens, the splendour of the Sun Pavilion, the luxurious Turkish Baths, the world-renowned Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate or one of the many other iconic places, Harrogate – supported by the convention Centre – provides an unforgettable experience for business and leisure visitors alike.

Richard see his role within the Harrogate Convention Centre team as ensuring that the Convention Centre meets and exceeds customer expectations and that Harrogate gives a great Yorkshire welcome to our guests.
